Know how to store your hazardous products:

Batteries
Never store used batteries in a group. This infographic will give you advice on how to store and dispose of different types of batteries. When finished with a 9-volt battery, cover conductor stubs with electrical, duct, or masking tape for safety. Do not store with other metal objects such as coins or paper clips. This creates a fire hazard and safety risk.

More Product Storage Tips
  • Follow any instructions for use and storage provided on product labels carefully to prevent any accidents at home.
  • Never store hazardous products in food containers; keep them in their original containers and never remove labels. Corroding containers, however, require special handling. Call your local fire department for instructions on handling corroding containers.
  • When leftovers remain, never mix hazardous chemicals with other products. Incompatible products might react, ignite, or explode.
  • Remember, even empty containers can pose hazards because of the residual chemicals that might remain.
“TAKE Back Your Home” is a cooperative program organized by Recycling and Solid Waste Districts, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Storm Water Districts and Public Health Districts in Adams, Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren Counties in Ohio and Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties in Kentucky to help our residents with hazardous waste and help make each home as toxin free as possible.
